Arches & Bridges
Arches & Bridges – Video art installation.
Both arches and bridges are places of physical connection while promoting elevated civilization. In this video the image of a mosque is fused with the Manhattan Bridge, Pearl St. archway in Brooklyn, NY. This Afghani mosque dates 1498. Thus the Pearl St. arch is reshaped into a mosque built 4000 years before the Manhattan bridge was built.
A mosque is a sacred Islamic building which is not only used for prayer, but is also used as a community center for a combination of reasons: for school, for social and political meetings, a place for judging cases, and other functions. The intention is to bring about awareness of its importance to the Islamic community, and, to emphasize it’s great architectural strength. This principal type of Islamic architectural form has influenced cultures for centuries.
